New Furniture

Three nice things about tax refunds: paying off debts (Marc's truck), putting a chunk of it in savings (always good), and then buying something (always fun!). We were able to beautify and increase the functionality of two rooms in our house in May ... Carlie & Rachel's bedroom, and our "music room".

Rachel had still been sleeping in a crib (since she was less than 20 months old when Kierstyn was born, I borrowed an extra crib from a neighbor so I could keep both girls in cribs! Hey, if a child is sleeping well, my motto is DO NOT DISTURB!). But since she was over 2 1/2 years old and extremely tall for her age, we figured it was time for a big girl bed. Since Carlie and Rachel share a room ... much to Carlie's sheer joy, that meant time to get BUNK BEDS! I did a lot of research and found a brand of children's furniture that is high quality so it will last till our final little girl is grown (at least that's the goal!). It was an added bonus that they were on a great sale, too! We decided to get some matching furniture along with the bunk beds: a desk, dresser, and bookshelf. The girls are thrilled with their "new" room, and Rachel has done awesome switching to the big bed. She doesn't even fall out of bed without a guard rail!

Our "music room" has consisted of a piano, an organ, and a bunch of junk and boxes sitting along the wall for 1 1/2 years since we moved in! We were anxious to find bookshelves to complete the room and transform it into a sort of conservatory - "library/music" room. However, we could never find exactly what we were looking for. Finally we decided to hire someone to make built-in bookshelves. The best quote, luckily, came from the same cabinet company that did the rest of our house. Here's the finished product ... and we are so thrilled! It flows with the rest of the wood work in the house, so it looks like it was there from the beginning.
