Well, we all made it to Green Bay, Wisconsin! It's been a whirlwind month (to go along with the couple months before it, too!). We got to experience "full-service" moving for the first time. Allyson and Rachel flew from Bakersfield, CA to Green Bay, WI on September 27 while Marc stayed behind to continue supervising the "packers" (not to be confused with the NFL Packers). Our house went from being completely put together to completely in boxes within 48 hours. I think that was a bit strange for the kids to witness.
On Friday, September 28, the movers loaded the huge Allied Van Lines truck (our stuff fit in just 1/3 to 1/2 of it unbelievably), Marc loaded our car with suitcases and remaining odds and ends, and Allyson signed the papers to buy the new house in Green Bay. Luckily the loading of the truck didn't take terribly long, so Marc and the 3 oldest kids got on the road by 3pm.
Visalia, CA to Las Vegas, NV ... picked up Marc's mom at the Las Vegas airport (to help entertain the kids on the drive!) ... Las Vegas, NV to Vail, CO (through snow and rain all day in Utah) ... Vail, CO to Omaha, NE ... and Omaha, NE to Green Bay, WI by Monday evening, October 1st. Happy Birthday to Marc!!! What a way to spend a birthday.
It was a great reunion in WI, and the kids were ecstatic to be out of the car and to see their new house. We continued staying at the Tundra Lodge hotel for a few nights (little Rachel was thoroughly sick of this hotel room after a week!!!). They have a great indoor waterpark at the hotel, so that made it more fun for the kids.
The 3 kids started school on Wednesday, October 3, and the truck showed up with all our furniture and boxes on Thursday, October 4. Marc's mom was a huge help during our first 24 hours in the house, but then we said goodbye on Friday and took her to the airport. All that was left to smile at us were boxes and more boxes .... Ah, the joy!
