Record-Snowfall in Green Bay

All the locals have told me numerous times that this winter has been sooooo "abnormal". I'm a little baffled. Sure, it's been cold and it's been snowy, but that's what I signed up for when we chose to move to Wisconsin ... right? I braced myself for a bad winter (in comparison to what we've been used to in California and Arizona), so this winter in Green Bay hasn't really phased me too much. It's what I expected. (Now, Marc admits he's wimpier than me ... and he's lucked out with multiple business trips to pleasant areas of the country like California, Oregon, Arizona, and Florida.)

However, the locals claim that it's been a bit colder for longer than usual plus a LOT snowier. Green Bay typically doesn't get a lot of snow (although other areas of Wisconsin do). As of February 18, 2008, we had received a total of 73.7 inches of snow ... the average is 37.8 inches for the entire season, and on this day in February last year, they had only received 16.4 inches. The record snowfall was set back in the 1890's of 79.6 inches. (and jumping ahead ... we broke the record on March 12, 2008, with 80.3 total inches by that date) ANYWAYS ... my mom requested I take a picture of all the snow, so here's my attempt. To be honest, it still doesn't seem like that much to me - we've had a couple warm spells through the winter that melted a lot of what we had had, so we definitely never had 73 inches on the ground at once! My main complaint is having a husband out of town during many of those snowfalls ... and not investing in a snowblower before they disappeared from store shelves for the season (you'd think Home Depot would've like to still profit from sales in February!). Shoveling was often too big a job for just Chandler to do, and I've found that shoveling brings on contractions in a pregnant lady! Thank goodness we were rescued several times by kind-hearted neighbors. (That plus finally giving up on a clear driveway ... some ice and snow will have to do for a little while.)
